Remembering those that do and did

Today Denise and I went over to Historic Fort Laurens State Memorial to attend a Veterans Day celebration at the site.  If you are not familiar with the site, you should really take some time and read about it on the above link.  It is Ohio's only fort from the Revolutionary War as well as the site of the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot of the American Revolution.
The ceremony began with the laying of wreaths adorned with the names of the fallen at Fort Laurens as well as wraths with no names for those known only to God. Tuscarawas County Commissioner Chris Abbuhl gave  a speech reminding us that on a day like today, showing up at an event like this is the least we as citizens can do to thank those that currently defend our country as well as those that have in the past.
For those that have served our country, thank you.

An Evening at The Stew Pot Kitchen

Last night the wife and I headed up to Akron to take part in the Akron Art Walk that is held the first Saturday of every month in the arts district of Akron.  Our good friend Scott owns a restaurant and has been kind enough to host my pictures in the back.  Last night, there was a new twist to the monthly event.  Scott had asked local music artist Rachel Roberts to do an acoustic set for the night.  If you have not heard her, I highly suggest you do.  A fantastic artist!
But as this site is not only a blog to share my images, but also my learning's in the photographic adventures.  I used my camera last night to shoot video of Rachel singing.  Having my camera for over a year now, I've never really gotten around to play with the video recording feature.  I know that many film studios are starting to use these types of cameras for shooting because of their ability to capture at 24fps, (cinema quality), and in high def.  It is a really cool feature, but, I've found that focusing on subject, especially in low light, is tough.  I missed a really good moment last night because I couldn't see that the scene was not focused when I hit record.  Also, if you are heading out to take pictures and you think, "Nah..I don't need my 32 GB card tonight, I can just use the 8 GB." TAKE THE 32 GB card with you.  The video featured below for her song "Rescue You" is cut short due to me running out of space on my SD card.  3/4 of the way through the song, I start seeing a flashing countdown, 10...9..8..7..and finally, CARD FULL.  Okay, live and learn.  Here's some shots from last night as well as one of the videos.

Looking back at Zoar Civil War 2011

It's a dark and stormy night here in Ohio as Hurricane Sandy throws wind and rain closer to us.  So while I still have power, I decided to work on some pictures tonight. Tonight's target of rework, the Civil War reenactment from Zoar in 2011.

Just in time for the holidays! I'm selling prints!

One of the projects I've been thinking about for a while has been to create a calendar for 2013 based on images of Zoar that I've taken over the past couple of years.  Now there are a lot of places out there to accomplish the task, but after a recommendation from my graphic artist friend Craig, I decided to go with Redbubble as the provider.  So without further ado, please feel free to visit my Redbubble site for a selection of images that I like best as well as the Zoar 2013 calendar!

A walk in the Park: Part 2 - CVNP 10/21/2012

Spent a little more time tonight looking though the pictures I took yesterday.  Really love going to this place.

A walk in the Park - CVNP 10/21/2012

We decided to head up to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park today to explore the Blue Hen Falls area.  If you have never been there, I highly recommend it.  Back in my post high school days, I went out there several times to explore. Situated behind and actually between the Boston Mills Ski Resort, the falls are an accessible area, but, can be a little bit of a tricky hike if you go past the Blue Hen Falls.  You see, past Blue Hen is another waterfall called Buttermilk Falls which is actually much more impressive to see.  But, your feet will likely get wet crossing over the stream several times to get to the falls.  Funny thing is, I don't remember the hike back to that area being that hard.  But my 43 year old knees are feeling it tonight. I would like to try to find out some of the history of the area.  Just before we got to Buttermilk Falls, we came across some old ruins of some type.  Probably an old mill or something, but would still be neat to find out.  Here's some images of a beautiful fall day at the falls.
