The Tuscarawas County Fair 2013

The one event we try to make it to every year to close out summer is the Tuscarawas County Fair.  My first memories of the fair are shortly after I moved to the county the year before I married my wife.  I  remember that she was really mad at me as we left and I informed her that a "carny" talked me out of about $30 bucks on a game.  Ya...I learned my lesson.  I stay away from the midway games.
But the fair is always good for reminding us that agriculture is an important part of our society and the food on your plate comes from somewhere.  Aside of the agricultural importance of the fair, the fair is also good for a couple other things.  Fair food and rides.  The smells, (the ones away from the barns), are a wonderful mixture of foods.  All kinds of foods.  Really good and likely very much against your diet foods.   So stop on down to the fair before it closes up this weekend and get yourself an elephant ear.

A moving tribute

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall was in New Philadelphia this week.  We took time this morning to stop down and pay our respects.

Coming soon - Zoar Civil War reenactment 2013 images

Hi folks!  Thanks for stopping by my site. I'm busily working on editing images from the weekends event in Zoar. And by the looks of my site metering, it looks like a lot of folks are looking for pictures from it!  Fear not dear friends, they are coming!

Also, as a reminder to my reenactor friends. My policy has always been if you see a picture of you that you want to use for personal reasons like a profile picture, etc, please feel free to use them. Yes, I am running a business taking pictures, but, I have nothing but the greatest amount of respect for you folks that take your time and money to keep history alive.  What you do isn't cheap and I appreciate that.   With that said, back to work. Thanks for stopping by!

Run through Amish country

On Saturday morning, I decided to take a quick run out through Amish Country before it got busy.  It's amazing how much that area has grown since I first moved in down here and it doesn't seem like an end is in sight.  My main focus was a take a few more shots of "The Worlds Largest Cuckoo Clock" in Sugarcreek and then go wherever the car took me.  Ended up rolling by Breitenbach WInery on the way back.  Plenty more to explore around here.
As for this coming week, well, its a big one.  The bi-annual Civil War reenactment event in Zoar starts Friday night and goes through the weekend. Stay tuned for a lot of pics to come.  For now, here's some from this weekends adventures.

Heroes

Reenactors salute veterans while coming off the line

The most important aspect of the D-Day Conneaut event is not the battles.  It's the important people that attend the event.  Those that served and those that were there 69 years ago.  And to never forget their sacrifices or anyone else that has worn a uniform in service and defense of this country.  For me, one of the best moments was when reenactors were coming off the line after the bridge battle near the Axis camp on Saturday morning.  Many of them stopped, saluted and shook the hands of what appeared to be grateful vets.
