Messing around when I should be doing other things

The title says it all.  Different outcomes for stuff I've worked on before.  Well, at least different for me.

Up on blocks - Saving the Bimeler House

Today was a big day down in Zoar.  The effort to save the Bimeler House kicked into high gear.  Back during the flood of 2005 and again in 2008, the Bimeler House suffered severe structural damage due to water seeping under the levy and getting into and under the basement of the structure.  The house, built in 1868 and made all of brick and stone, shifted on it's foundation and caused major damage to the structure.  Since then, the house has been closed to the public.
Taken a few years back

Finally, a plan was put into place to lift the house off of it's old foundation so that a new one could be made.  In order to do that, they had to basically get the house out of the way.  And getting it out of the way they did.

I was speaking with one of the residents while taking pictures tonight.  He said that the stones that were removed from the foundation and basement are all numbered and put aside during this process.  And, if one was stolen or lost, then they are in trouble.  Let's hope they are able to get this fixed quickly.  I'll be posting updates here as I see any changes going on down there.
Of course while we were down in Zoar tonight, we drove around enjoying the colors of fall after the sunset.

Busy Fall Weekend

Fall is here and it felt like it this weekend.  Temps dipped into the 50's for a high and the colors are in full change.  Well, at least around Northern Tuscarawas County.  Funny thing was, further up north in Cuyahoga Falls, they appeared to be a week or so behind us.  I think it's probably because they got more rain up there then we did this summer.  Oh well.  Still was fun on Saturday taking a quick trip north to visit "The Ledges" at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

After wondering around the valley for a while, we headed on up to The Stew Pot Kitchen on Main Street in Downtown Akron. It my buddy Scott's restaurant and he's allowing my work to be displayed on the walls there as part of the monthly Akron Art Walk. (HINT: It's for sale, too!) If you're ever in the area, stop on by and take a look in the back room. Have some soup while you're there! It IS good stuff!

On Sunday, Denise and I headed out to Wooster to enjoy the Colonial Williamsburg Festival at The Pine Tree Barn. As the website says,
Step back 200 years in time to 18th-century Williamsburg. For two days, Pine Tree Barn is transformed into a bustling colonial village.
Our close friend Jen owns her own small business and she makes some fantastic period ware.  Anything from the Renaissance to the 1940's.  She had a booth and we wanted to stop by and support her and check out the other fine products for sale.  Was a great festival and the cold weather got us in the pre-holiday mood.  Kinda of scary considering that it's only October.  But, living historians and crafts on a Sunday in October are always fun.  A gentleman by the name of Roger Moore gave an interesting talk about his heritage and the real stories behind Native Americans.  Not the Hollywood story.  The troops shown below might look familiar if you follow this site.  They were from the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment, which are the same people that are in Bolivar each year at the Revolution on the Tuscarawas encampment at historic Fort Laurens.

Zoar in Fall

Was hoping tonight that the clouds would have cleared out while the sun was still up when I got down to Zoar.  However, that was not in the cards.  But, I'm still pretty happy with tonight's adventures in F-stops.
